It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia: unlikeable character(s)

I hated almost all the characters in the Ruby Red trilogy, there’s the spoiled rotten cousin, the bitchy-borderline-verbally-abusive aunt, the asshole of a love interest, the whiney and passive MC. Ugh. I hated these characters.

Vampire Diaries: your ship sank or didn’t happen

Crown of Midnight. I don’t wanna talk about it.

images20151201_181719

Friends: best cast of characters/friendships

I love the Six of Crows gang! They are #squadgoals

gossip_girl_title_card
Gossip Girl: hate that you love or guilty pleasure

41jyxjpk3wl

I used to really love the It Girl spinoff of Gossip Girl. It definitely was a guilty pleasure and I think it started my love for boarding school settings in books.

doctor_who_logo_23hp-covers
Doctor Who: long series you loved

Harry Potter, how can I not go with this one?

225220160531_210737
Grey’s Anatomy: all the feels

A Court of Mist and Fury. It was a very close call between ACOMAF and Lady Midnight

How I Met Your Mother: bad ending

The House of Night series, I think this could be a guilty pleasure because I feel like I was one of the few people who liked this series and since I’ve finished the series I tried to reread them and just can’t now, ugh. Now that I’ve read it with a more critical eye I have lots of issues with the series and my biggest issue is actually slut shaming. Not a fan.

Supernatural: favorite paranormal/fantasy

Game of Thrones is my favorite fantasy series ever

Freaks & Geeks: left you wanting more

Vicious by Victoria Schwab. Just give me more Victor and Mitch and Sydney…that’s all I want!

1201BookCoverBloodlinesSeries
The OC: series that should have ended earlier

Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead

I love it when I read it but overall I think the series dragged on longer than it should have.

Girl Meets World: should have a spin-off

Manon from Throne of Glass! Give the girl her own series!!

That 70’s Show: set in a different time period

Legend by Marie Lu

Legend is a dystopian set in a future America that is divided in a civil war that literally split the country in half.

Orange is the New Black: couldn’t stop reading

Vampire Academy. I binged on this series in less than a week. Loved!

Parks and Recreation: made you laugh out loud

Lumberjanes. I love this comic so much I was dying with laughter which sucked for my bf because I read it in bed one morning while he was still asleep and I was trying to be quiet but I was shaking I was laughing so hard while trying to be quiet. Once he fully woke up and read the comic he understood lol 🙂

One Tree Hill: favorite book boyfriend

Outlander. Jaime Fraser!

Let’s be real, he is bae!

Breaking Bad: favorite villain

Cersei Lannister.

Overall I hate her but I love her and that makes her a great villain in my eyes.

The Wine Book Tag

I stumbled across this tag from Cátia at The Girl Who Read Too Much

My first thought when I saw this was “I love wine, I gotta do this tag!” So here it is, I am a little disappointed that my favorite wine (Riesling) wasn’t on the list but oh well, I don’t know how it would translate into a bookish question so that’s probably why it didn’t make the list.

Back to the tag! Wine! Yes! Let’s do this!

Too much excitement about wine…

the-wine-book-tag

  1. Box Wine – a book that people will judge you for liking but you like it anyway!

all_10_super_senshi_artbook_3_cover

I got a lot of judgment from people for reading Sailor Moon manga, not from anyone online but from people in my life. But at the end of the day, I loved the manga series so who cares.

  1. Organic Wine – a book that doesn’t have any added crap in it and is just written perfectly.

 20151201_181719

The first thing that came to mind was Six of Crows! It’s beautifully written and just screams perfection in my mind.

  1. Gluehwein – a really spicy, wintry read.

 20151028_080456

I have no idea what to put for this one but the book that keeps coming to mind is the Bronze Horseman by Paulina Simons. This book takes place in winter and has some hot scenes in it.

  1. Sauvignon Blanc – a really sharp and aggressive read that you couldn’t put down!

 20160803_200624

I dont know if I would label this book as aggresive, I dont know what would make a book be considered “aggressive”, but this was the first one that came to mind so I went with it. Real talk though I straight up devoured This Savage Song in one sitting, I loved it so much!

  1. Pinot Noir – a book you didn’t expect much from but ended up getting blown away!

 20160803_200559

Hopeless- I don’t know why but I wasn’t expecting to love Hopeless at all. But I was hooked and glued to the pages. It’s now one of my favorite CoHo books.

  1. Chardonnay – a good summer read that was super-zesty.

 20160630_202617

My favorite summer read of 2016 was The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. It was a perfect summery read!

  1. Rose – a book that has a little bit of everything in it.

 20160630_203933

A Court of Mist and Fury definitely has a little bit of everything going on in it. So good!!!

  1. Shiraz – A full-bodied book that is dark and juicy

 20151016_102122

The Rose Society by Marie Lu! PS who else is really excited for Midnight Star? I am!

  1. Merlot – a smooth easy read with a soft finish.

 51bshpugrel-_sx350_bo1204203200_

My first thought was The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West, it’s an easy read, nothing bad really happens, and there’s a cute ending.

  1. Champagne – Your Favorite Book

 A1bCf-Xhe4L

Ready Player One is still one of my all-time favorite books and I honestly kind of want to reread it now.

Every Last Word mini review

20160630_202930

Every Last Word
by Tamara Ireland Stone
hardcover
368 pages
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis via Goodreads

If you could read my mind, you wouldn’t be smiling.

Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can’t turn off.

Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn’t help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she’d be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam’s weekly visits to her psychiatrist.

Caroline introduces Sam to Poet’s Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more “normal” than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear.

My thoughts:

This was wonderful! Probably one of my favorite contemporaries to date. Cute and a little fluffy but it had its fair share of dark moments.

I was hooked from page 1 and I never wanted to stop reading. Sam was so endearing and my heart broke for her so many times while watching her battle her OCD and trying not to let it affect her everyday life.

One thing I really loved was how the chapter headers were set up. Part of Sams OCD was an obsession with the number 3, so the title of the book is three words, all the chapter titles are 3 words. Another thing Sam did was while making a playlist she would pick out a song that was the defining song for the playlist, within that song she would study the lyrics and pick out three words that would define that song/playlist and that was the title for the playlist. The chapters were titled the same way and I loved that! It added a special touch to how everything was set up.

I also loved AJ and if Tamara wanted to write another book centered around him, I would devour it in a heartbeat! He was a really interesting character and I really wanted more of him.

I loved Poets Corner and I found myself wishing that my school had something similar, I would have loved to have been a part of the top secret poetry club.

I really want to say more about this but I don’t want to spoil anything…I almost feel like you should go into this book not knowing too much about it.

What have you recently finished reading?

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

I don’t know what to say about IEwU, I didn’t love it, I didn’t dislike it. IDK

The Cursed Child by JK Rowling

Again I didn’t dislike this, I didn’t love it either, it just kinda fell in the middle. I’m glad I bought it, glad I read it that about sums up my feelings for it.

Ruined by Amy Tintera

I didn’t like this as much as I thought I would, which made me quite sad, it has a lot of potential and some great action scenes but the rest of the book fell a bit flat for me.

Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone (A.K.A- The Coolest Name ever!)

This one was probably my favorite of the week. I loved it so much it’s about a girl who has severe OCD and discovers a secret poetry club at her school. It was so cute, so emotional at times, and overall I thought it was a great story. Loved!

August 2: Ten Books You’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed You A Fully Loaded Gift Card

This is an interesting and thought provoking prompt.

Please tell me I’m not alone in this.

So while I have a never ending TBR pile… I also have a never ending wish list. Someone please tell me that you are the same way!

Its so bad! Sometimes I get ideas like “Hey I should get my TBR to 150 unread books before I buy some new ones.” A.k.a a book buying ban or sometimes I go through my Amazon wishlist and think “do I really need to get that? Lets go through and delete 20 books or so.” So I’ll do that and, in all seriousness, about 3 or 4 days later I go back and re-add them to the list. *Shaking my head at myself*

Instead of going with the books that are in my amazon cart right now, these are the books I would most likely buy if *basically* someone else paid for. That sounds a little bad…

Ten Books You’d Buy Right This Second If Someone Handed You A Fully Loaded Gift Card

  1. Hamilton: The RevolutionI want this so badly! I don’t know why I don’t just order it on Amazon but for whatever reason, I just haven’t yet.
  2. The World of Ice and Fire by George R.R. MartinThis book is beautiful!!! I flipped through it once at Target and its beautiful and again I don’t know why I haven’t ordered it.
  3. Prudence by Gail CarrigerThis is one of those books that I want to get in Hardback and the hardback is almost $20 on Amazon

  4. The Complete Wreck by Lemony SnicketI started reading this a kid, I read up to book 7 I think…and basically I just got burnt out and never picked them up again. Lately I’ve really been wanting to see how the series ended.
  5. TravelerLast year I read Seeker and I didnt really like it, when I read it I was in a reading slump and had to force myself to read it, but when I start a series I have a strong desire to try to see it through to the end.

  6. The Last StarI haven’t heard many good things about this 😦 I want to read it but I don’t want to buy it…ya feel me?
  7. Bloodline (Star Wars)
This is another book that’s just a little bit too expensive for me to want to pick up.
  8. House of Leaves
I’ve read really good things about this book, I’ve seen it at Barnes and Noble and have flicked through it a couple times and while my interest is peaked I’m not in a big rush to purchase it.

  9. S
Kind of the same with House of Leaves, I’ve heard great things about it, but its a low purchase priority
  10. The Outlandish Companion
This is one of those books that I’m not sure if I need it, it looks like something that would be nice to have to help refresh my memory but overall, I cant decide if I’m ever actually going to buy this book. But I for sure would if I had a gift card haha

20160630_202617
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Last year I read Since You’ve Been Gone (and shamelessly listened to Kelly Clarkson for almost all of it) and really enjoyed Matson’s writing, also I had heard good things about this one so I thought I would pick this one up. I already read this and I really liked it.

20160630_202838
I had to do it.

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

The Trails of Apollo by Rick Riordan

I saw this at Walmart and couldn’t resist picking up, if only for the sole reason that it had an exclusive bookmark in it! Yeah that happened. I was holding it in the store and thinking to myself, I cant read this until I read the Heroes of Olympus series, I don’t own the Heroes of Olympus series, if I buy this I’m going to have to buy the Heroes of Olympus. Then thought to myself…oh well. This way of thinking is why I’m pretty much always broke.

20160630_202546
Voyager by Diana Gabaldon
I am almost finished with Dragonfly in Amber and I have a deal worked out to where I read one Outlander book and buy the next one.

Ruined by Amy Tintera
Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover
The Crowns Game by Evelyn Skye (I love her name!)
The Assassins Heart by Sarah Ahiers
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
Every Last Word By Tamara Ireland Stone (Another awesome name!)
The Forbidden Orchid by Sharon Biggs Waller

For all of these…well the BF took me to Barnes and Noble, said that he wanted to treat me and I lost all self control…he’s an enabler.

The Darkest Magic by Morgan Rhodes

I had this on preorder to buy after I finished reading A Book of Spirits and Thieves and I am really excited to continue on with this series!

So yeah that is my June Haul, I hope you enjoyed!

Have you read any of these? What books should I pick up soon?

Books I want to read in July

This is crazy, I feel like I was just writing out my unofficial June TBR and now here I am with my unofficial July TBR. I don’t like how quickly the months are going by!

I really liked last months unofficial tbr, it really took some pressure off and I didn’t feel bad when I wasn’t able to get to a couple of the books on there. So I’m doing that again with some books that I would like to read this month but I wont beat myself up if it doesnt happen

20160630_204358

First up: I really want to binge marathon the Heroes of Olympus series, This weekend is the perfect time I think because I have a three day weekend and a late start on Tuesday! Lots of ideal reading time. I’m hoping to get to The Hidden Oracle next week because I really want to read that soon.

p.s. which Heroes of Olympus cover is your favorite? I think mine is definitely Son of Neptune.

20160630_202655

I just love that cover!

I also really want to catch up on my CoHo reading with Hopeless and Point of Retreat

I also really need to read

Dreams of Gods and Monsters
20160630_204553

This trilogy is so beautiful!

And Never Fade and In the After Light, after that I’ll have completed two trilogies! YAY!

After that I want to read some of my big books and I’m going on vacation for the last two weeks of July (I’ll post more details on that later!) and I cant go on vacation without bringing some books with me and since its a later vacation I’m bringing some big books with me.

The Name of the Wind
A Dance with Dragons
The Queen of the Tearling
All the Light We Cannot See

knowing me I’ll end up adding a couple more books.

20160630_204342

So here’s my reading goals for July it seems ambitious but I feel like its doable though which would be pretty awesome.

Have you read any of these?

June Wrap Up

20160630_203656

I had to count my book stack about 3 times to make sure that the numbers were adding up right, but I read 17 books this month. Overall it was a good month, the first part of it started off a bit rough, I wasn’t really impressed with the books that I read but then things turned around and I read some amazing books!

20160630_203925

Starling
by Fiona Paul
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I was so bummed that I ended up not liking the last book of this trilogy but I wasn’t surprised. I didn’t care for the second book of this trilogy. It just sucks when that happens, I feel like I invested so much time to sit down and read these books and go from loving the first book to the second book being okay and then the 3rd is just kind of a snooze fest. Plus my ship didn’t sail.

20160630_203755
The One and Only Ivan
by Katherine Applegate
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

What is it about children’s books that bring out my feels? I was sobbing throughout this, just straight up broken. The poor treatment, the acceptance that life will probably never get better, the innocence, and the determination to make a difference those thing just destroyed me, I don’t think I have ever cried so hard during a book. But it was sweet and I loved it!

Never Never part 1, 2, and 3
by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher
my ratings: Book 1: 4 out of 5 stars |Book 2: 4 out of 5 stars |Book 3: 3 out of 5 stars

Ah, another trilogy I was disappointed with. I’m not sure if this is actually considered a trilogy but I’m considering it to be one, and I was not happy with the ending. I found it to be incredibly anticlimactic and the whole reason why everything happened really annoyed me.

20160531_210507
My Heart and Other Black Holes
by Jasmine Warga
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall I thought this was alright, I never felt emotionally connected to either of the characters which really limited my reading experience.

20160601_210400
When We Collided
by Emery Lord
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Then I experienced a total 180 turn with When We Collided, I ended up loving this a lot more than I thought I would. Jonah is 100% book boyfriend material and the characters were just so loveable and endearing.

20160531_210737
A Court of Mist and Fury
by Sarah J Maas
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I don’t even know where to start besides just perfection! Holy amazing steamy love! Rhysand is a precious cupcake, and Feyre is fierce and I love her, and I think this book wrenched my heart out and stomped it into the ground!

20160601_210606
Lady Midnight
by Cassandra Clare
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This took me so long to get into but once I did I flew through it just loved it so much, everyone described this to me as an emotional rollercoaster and oh boy they were right. SO MANY FEELS! I can’t wait for the next one!

20160503_085116
The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Seriously the Night Circus is a flawless masterpiece. The world building was amazing and all the little stories wove together just beautifully. I already want to reread it!

20160630_203836
Days of Blood and Starlight
by Laini Taylor
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Quick funny story. I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone last year and loved it with every inch of my heart, I loved it so much that I wanted to dye my hair blue and tattoo hamsas on my hands and now it’s a year later and I still want to do all of that. Back to DoBaS, this was another emotional rollercoaster! And I don’t even know where I would start if I wanted to review this, just trust me and read it.

20160630_203828
The Darkest Minds
by Alexandra Bracken
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This was so good! I don’t know where I would begin with all of this, it was intense, suspenseful and overall it really kept me guessing, I had no idea where the story was going to go and I still have no idea what to expect from the rest of the trilogy. I love when books are able to keep me guessing.

20160630_203813
Alienated
by Melissa Landers
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This is another book that I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would, the cover made it look cutesy and fluffy. And it was cute and a but fluffy but the MCs had to deal with racism and discrimination, there were environmental issues, and overall I felt like there was a lot more then what meets the eye with this book.

20160630_202617
The Unexpected Everything
by Morgan Matson
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This was so cute! I read this within a day just flew through it and loved the friendships, the personal growth and character developments. Just really well done.

20160630_203858
A Book of Spirits and Thieves
by Morgan Rhodes
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This was awesome, I loved all the main characters and I feel like it was a very well done spinoff.

20160630_203908
The 5th Wave
by Rick Yancey
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This was originally a 3 star rating for me, well more like 3.5 stars but the ending really hooked me and I will be reading Infinite Sea really soon, so because of that I felt like this should be bumped up the ½ point. I really struggled reading this, I didn’t like how the POV’s were set up so that you would have to figure out who was talking. That really irritated me. That said I will continue reading it.

Synopsis via Goodreads:

The queen has returned.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

Well hello there!

How are you today? I would like to introduce you to one of my new favorites.

Queen of Shadows!

Queen of Shadows was almost everything that I wanted and more! It was my highest anticipated book of the year! And now book 5 is already my highest anticipated book for 2016.
The only thing I wished would have happened is that my ship happened. It didn’t. 😥 😥 😥

Sad face 😦  I loved seeing Celaena and Chaol together. But since she’s shed the Celaena identity and is truly Aelin now it makes sense, still it makes me sad, because he’s one of my biggest book crushes.

Still loved it though!

So Queen of Shadows is the 4th book in the Throne of Glass series and I loved it so much Throne of Glass is one of my favorite series of all time. The beginning was a little slow, but I found that momentum built up fast and for the last 200 or 300 pages I just flew right through them. This book brought out all of my feels, I was happy, I cried, I squealed in joy, I felt moments of rage. God it was awesome!

Characters I loved
Aelin
Manon
Lysandra
Nesryn
Aestrin
I loved those five so much. I really want to see them like get together for a really sassy tea party and then just go out and kick a bunch of ass.
Aelin/Celaena I just love her, if I could bring any book character to life for a day, I would so choose her we could spend an awesome day shopping and reading, it’d be a blast.

I was almost surprised by how much I loved Lysandra, I didn’t like her in the Assassins Blade prequels, but I loved her right off the bat, she had amazing character development and I admire her discipline when it came to restraint and hiding her emotions. That can’t be easy to especially given the circumstances.

Nesryn was awesome, she was a great addition to the group and from the moment where she was first introduced I loved her, I knew she was going to be a great character with her calm and steady personality. She had such a grounding effect on everyone and she saved everyone’s asses a couple times.

Manon and Aestrin, Manon was my favorite point of view to read in Heir of Fire, I’m always anxious to get back to her storyline. Aestrin shocked me a lot with her rebellion in this book you really got to know her better in this book. And I want more. Actually if Sarah woke up tomorrow and wanted to write more prequels or a spinoff of Manon and/or Lysandra I would support that 110%.

There were a lot of twists and turns that happened that I really did not see coming. At all. I don’t want to spoil anything, but seriously this story did not go in the way I expected it too, granted I didn’t give it too much thought since I like being surprised with storylines. I haven’t theorized how the series is going to end and I’m not going to. I am so excited for the next installment and kind of devastated that I have to wait a whole year!
