What have you recently finished reading?

What are you currently reading?

What do you think you’ll read next?

What have you recently finished reading?

The Darkest Minds.
The Unexpected Everything

  • Omg I loved The Darkest Minds! That was so freaking intense and gripping and I honestly may have read it in two sittings, I didn’t want to put that book down ever! Loved it!
  • I picked up Alienated on a whim because I was reading Pride and Prejudice so slowly so I decided that I was going to put it aside and find another book that fit the TBR Takedown challenge of reading a book that’s been on your TBR for over a year, and I choose Alienated and I ended up really liked it, I was shocked by everything that went on in it. I’m currently in the process of writing a review but reality keeps getting in my way.
  • I also really liked The Unexpected Everything I honestly read it in a day I couldn’t get enough of it.

What are you currently reading?

A Book of Spirits and Thieves
Pride and Prejudice
The 5th Wave
Dragonfly In Amber

That is an unacceptable amount of books to be reading at once, but I will explain whats going on here.

  • Dragonfly in Amber put me in a bit of a slump, I was starting to feel like I am not making progress on it at all so that unmotivated me a bit but I will finish it!
  • I blame DiA for the fact that I’m reading Pride and Prejudice so slowly but to be honest its taking me a while to get used to Jane Austen’s writing style.
  • Another TBH, I am not really liking the 5th Wave, I am 25% of the way through it but yeah not really into it. I do want to stick with it though.
  • So after all of this, I thought that a good book to get me back into reading would be A Book of Spirits and Thieves and I was right! I am loving what I’ve read so far so that was a good call. I do need to make progress on this though.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Darkest Magic
The Bane Chronicles
The Lost Hero

  • The Darkest Magic is book 2 of A Book of Spirits and Thieves and it is being delivered tonight and I am excited to be able to dive into it!
  • I have been pumping myself up to be reading the Bane Chronicles so much, I had originally planned on reading a couple chapters here and there during the TBR Takedown readathon sadly I never got around to it but I am still committed.
  • I am so ready for the Hero of Olympus series, I really want to get to the Trails of Apollo so I am planning to use my three day weekend to binge marathon the Heros of Olympus series and get to the Trails of Apollo.

Wow there were a lot of books talked about here.
Let me know if you’ve read any of these books!

Top Ten Tuesday Books that make me want to travel

June 28: Freebie Week
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

So this is freebie week for Top Ten Tuesday, we are able to talk about anything and everything book related, so I choose to talk about a list that I’ve been thinking about a lot recently. Books that make me want to travel. I love traveling, I haven’t done a lot traveling in my life, but I’m working on changing that. Growing up I used to have a world map tacked above my bed and I had push pins covering it, there are so many places that I want to go.

I don’t know about you but when I read a book set in another city/state/country/continent I really want to go there and explore it for myself.

So here is my list of places that books have made me want to buy a ticket and travel 🙂

Real places:

Outlander- Scotland

How can you read Outlander and not want to go to Scotland? My main issue is that I want to go to Scotland in 1743 and find my own sexy Scottish Highlander 😉 but I will gladly go to modern day Scotland.

The bf and I are talking about planning a trip to Scotland, so far the plan is to fly to London and spend a couple days there, go up to Edinburgh and spend some days there, explore the Highlands and Isle of Skye, back to Edinburgh, fly to Dublin Ireland then fly home. This is not happening soon but maybe next year *fingers crossed*

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Daughter of Smoke and Bone- Prague

While DoSB initially made me want to go to Prague some additional travel books and looking at attractions and architecture has really made me want to visit Prague.

The Infernal Devices- London

Again with the whole time travel issue, Victorian era London would be cool to be able to visit!

The Bronze Horseman- Russia

Don’t worry I actually wouldn’t want to go to WW2 Russia, but I would still like to go to modern day Russia, preferably in the summer 😉

Anna and the French Kiss- France

Ever since I could remember I’ve always and forever wanted to travel to France or Paris. I love the french language and I am learning it in my spare time just because I want to. Traveling to France has always been a bucket list.

Lola and the Boy Next Door- San Francisco

This is one of my goals for 2017, even if I can only take a long weekend quick trip to San Francisco I would be so thrilled!

November 9- New York City

Another place I’ve wanted to go to for as long as I could remember and it might actually happen this year, my uncle and I were talking about flying to NYC in December to see family over there.

Days of Blood and Starlight- Morocco

This one also is influenced by Casablanca, I would love to go to Morocco and see the architecture, art, and food. I’d really like to go there.

Honorary Fictional Mentions

The Hobbit- Middle Earth/ New Zealand

I would love to go to Middle Earth but only if I can be an elf! That would be beyond amazing!

Also how amazing would it be to go to New Zealand and do the hobbit tour and stay in a hobbit hole?! Dream goal is to stay in a hobbit house!

Harry Potter- The Wizarding World

No explanation needed I’m sure.

Does reading make anyone else want to travel? Where are some places that you would like to travel to? Along with this list I’d also like to go to Barcelona, Thailand, Australia, and China.

Title reveal for Red Queen #3

Today epic reads revealed the title for the next Red Queen book. Monday they gave us a clue via twitter and delighted in tormenting readers everywhere.

I still haven’t read Glass Sword. Just throwing that out there.

Fullscreen capture 6212016 95945 AM.jpg

What could it be???

Prince’s Cure?
Prince’s Curse??

People’s guesses included

Prince’s Cage
Someone’s guess was Princess Scorned and I really like that idea!

*If you need a laugh go to epicreads’ twitter feed and click on the thread for this, there are some hilarious guesses.*

But what is the actual title?

I’m glad you asked.

It is King’s Cage

Fullscreen capture 6222016 80943 AM

I like it like I said, though, I still haven’t read Glass Sword. I’ll probably need to soon.

Now I can’t wait for the cover!

What do you think of the title?

What have you recently finished reading?

I just finished the Night Circus and Days of Blood and Starlight and I seriously loved them both. I already want to reread The Night Circus and Days of Blood and Starlight had a vise (haha like if you get it!) like grip on my heart the entire time. I absolutely adore Laini Taylor’s writing and this trilogy is spectacular!

What are you currently reading?

I’m taking a bit of a break from Dragonfly in Amber at the moment to read The Darkest Minds. I only have 200 pages left of DiA but I feel like I’m getting nowhere reading it so I’m putting it aside (again) for now. Will pick back up soon. I am enjoying the Darkest Minds, it’s a little intense but I’m liking it a lot!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Probably Pride and Prejudice, I have a feeling that book is going to take longer then I would like to read so I’m hoping to get it under my belt before I get to The Unexpected Everything and the 5th Wave. I’m maybe going camping this weekend and if I’m not I might be housesitting,

I’m maybe quite possibly going camping this weekend and if I’m not I might be housesitting, either way, I can’t read much if I go camping, I’ll actually have to *gulp* socialize *cue horror music*

Don’t get me wrong I really like camping but then there are people there and in the words of my loveable/eccentric aunt “I dont do the public” life motto right there.

The last time I went camping they all gave me a hard time for trying to read Queen of Shadows instead of talking to them.

Cover reveal for A Crown of Wishes

It’s no secret that I loved The Star Touched Queen.

And what’s not to love? STQ was a beautiful Indian mythology retelling with a Hades and Persephone theme. Roshani’s writing style is beautiful, in my review, I compared her writing to Laini Taylor’s, seriously it’s gorgeous.

Technically The Star Touched Queen is a standalone with a companion novel (A Crown of Wishes) being released in 2017 and today they revealed the cover of A Crown of Wishes.

there’s also an excerpt of Chapter 1 and right away you can tell our MC will be sassy. I like it. I’m hooked. I’m ready for March 28th 2017 when this beauty comes out.

Just from reading the excerpt, I don’t think you would have to read The Star Touched Queen in order to read A Crown of Wishes.

Go read the excerpt!

I am so excited this cover is just gorgeous!

Top Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year

June 21: Top Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

While compiling this list, I realized that I haven’t read many 2016 releases. I really struggled to think of all the 2016 books I’ve read and it turned out to be exactly ten books, but I have really enjoyed the new releases that I have gotten to so that’s okay right?

  • Truthwitch
  • The Rose and the Dagger
  • A Gathering of Shadows
  • The Forbidden Wish
  • The Star Touched Queen
  • Rebel of the Sands
  • A Court of Mist and Fury
  • Lady Midnight
  • When We Collided
  • The Siren

What are some of your 2016 favorites? Do we have any similar ones?

Tome Topple Wrap Up

Tome Topple is over and sadly I did not reach my reading goals but that’s okay they were fairly ambitious. I am extremely happy with all the progress that I made throughout it all.

So I read

A Court of Mist and Fury
Lady Midnight
The Night Circus
319 pages of Dragonfly in Amber (I only have 200 pages left!)
Lumberjanes volume 3.

page total: 2187 pages.

I can’t wait for the next round of Tome Topple. I thought that this was a fun and creative readathon and super motivating to read some of my bigger books.

TBR Takedown 4.0

Yay! Another readathon!

I love readathons, I know some people find them to be stressful and are often disappointed with themselves if they don’t finish their tbrs. For me, readthons are motivating. I am a fairly competitive person so racing against people are always fun, but overall I just always have a good time during a readathon and seeing how many people are participating and what they’re reading.

So TBR takedown starts today, June 20th and goes until midnight June 26th.

There are challenges for the readathon so my tbr is centered around the challenges and I’m also using this readathon to make a dent in my 2016 book goals.

The Challenges:

First in a series: The Darkest Minds

Unread Sequel: Days of Blood and Starlight

Recent Haul: the Unexpected Everything

TBR for over a year: Pride and Prejudice

Out of comfort zone: The 5th Wave

I choose The 5th Wave for the out of my comfort zone challenge because when I first tried to read it, honestly it freaked me out. The writing is so vivid and imagining how the aliens took over the Earth was so intense it started giving me anxiety. It doesn’t help that I do believe that there has to be something out there in space. However I do want to read this and I feel like now is a good time.

I also plan on reading the short stories in the Bane Chronicles to break things up if need be.

So that’s my tbr

Is anyone else participating in TBR takedown? Let me know if you are and what you plan on reading.

Waiting on Wednesday 6/15

Technically this is a Waiting on Wednesday post but it’s basically me rambling about Harry Potter until I ran out of things to talk about.

New WoW

Welcome back to Waiting on Wednesday, Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and you talk about books coming out soon that you’re excited about

Today I want to talk about The Cursed Child

So I already talked about this a little bit yesterday in my Top Ten Tuesday since it is one of my highly anticipated books of the year but I realized that I wanted to talk about this book a little bit more and see if anyone else was the feeling the same way. I’m just going to warn you now that this is going to be long, once I started I couldn’t stop, turns out I had a lot to talk about with Harry Potter, surprising right?

There are two things that I have loved for almost my entire life: Books and Harry Potter. Yes, I consider Harry Potter to be separated from the books because my love went beyond the books to the movies to fanfic. Harry Potter was my first fandom and the first fanfic I ever read was about Draco Malfoy.

So like I said yesterday, this release has me feeling very emotional and it also has me thinking back about my Harry Potter memories. I have loved Harry Potter for over half my life now, I’m 24 and I first read it at about age 9. That’s almost 2/3rds of my life that I have loved this series. I went to 3 or 4 of the movie’s midnight premieres, I remember I was at the Half-Blood Prince one, the movie theater I was at oversold tickets and people were fighting over seats and trying to just stand or sit on the floor. FYI that did not go over well for the movie theater.

I think I read Harry Potter when I was 9 years old. It was either when I was in 3rd grade or 4th grade. My grandma was the one who introduced me to it, I remember her telling me about the book, how it was about this boy who lived in England and discovered that he was a wizard. I remember feeling a little bit “meh” about it, it sounded alright, but little did I know that it was going to become one of my favorite things of all time. She bought me the paperback copy of The Sorcerer’s Stone  and I fell in love with it. We both read the series at the same time and we both kept up with it. My grandma though simply liked the story, but it consumed me. I was in love with it, and that’s how it was for most of my Harry Potter experience, I loved it and everyone else seemed to think it was just okay. Then again, not a lot of my friends actually read, But it was no secret that I did, from early on that my label in school was “the bookworm” I was always reading. I read at recess, during free time in class, when I was done with my schoolwork, on the bus, and odds are, I was reading Harry Potter.

Harry Potter is the series that I have reread the most, I can’t even give an accurate estimate on how many times I have reread it.

Quick story: My mom was terrified of the idea of me driving, she absolutely thought I was going to be sitting behind the wheel trying to read a Harry Potter book while I was driving. Now I haven’t done that but I have debated on pulling over onto the shoulder of the road to finish reading a chapter because I simply couldn’t wait to get home and continue reading.

I was 15 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released and a bookstore in Olympia had a release party.
(Don’t hold me to this but if I remember right it was at Borders and it was a midnight party.)
People were dressed up at characters and I was so excited to see that other people loved this story as much as I did. I was very excited because I had just started working at my first job and I had my own money to buy the book with. I also remember on my way home from the bookstore, clutching this beautiful hardcover of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in my lap, beyond bummed that it was 1 in the morning and too dark to read in the car. I was thinking to myself “This is it. This is the last Harry Potter book. It’s over after this,” and I started crying. I still want to cry thinking about it. The next morning I started reading Deathly Hallows and my mom and I had to pick up my brother from the airport that day so I was reading it in the car, reading while walking through the airport, and sitting on the floor reading while waiting for my brother’s plane to come in. I remember my mom saying how can you possibly finish that in a day?

That’s basically how that went, I think I flew through it within a day and a half or something like that, and yes I cried when I finished it. It was over.

But then last year I heard about the Cursed Child.

I was ecstatic to hear about the Cursed Child play, devastated to hear that it was only playing in England, and ecstatic all over again to hear that the script was being published and that The Harry Potter series would have another installment being added to it.

I know this is just the script in book form and it won’t be the same as the rest of the books but I don’t care. 15-year old me would have given up just about anything for a continuation of Harry Potter and now it’s happening. Just the mere thought is enough to make me cry tears of joy, I can’t imagine how I’m going to feel when I’m holding the physical book in my hands. This really does feel like a dream come true for me.

Tell me a bit about your Harry Potter experience, did you grow up with the series like I did? Are you a new fan? Do you plan on checking out the Cursed Child?

I recently finished:

Lady Midnight!

Last week was so crazy for me and I didn’t get to read as much I wanted to which always bums me out but omg this book was awesome! It made me so incredibly happy and sad and heartbroken. I just. I can’t. I’m still kind of processing on how I’m feeling but I’m still trying to focus on the readathon so I can’t just dwell on this.

What are you currently reading?

A Dragonfly in Amber

as of today, I am about 60-65% of the way through, I see no reason why I wouldn’t be able to finish it by tonight, fingers crossed!

What do you think you’ll read next?

I am determined to read and finish the Bone Season, All the Light We Cannot See, and the Night Circus. Luckily there’s not a lot going on this week or this weekend. I should have no excuses at all for not reading and not crushing the readathon TBR.
