January 2019 Wrap Up

TBR (1)

Overall January was a bit of a disappointing month for me, I wasn’t in the mood to really read a whole lot. I’m kind of feeling like I’m in a reading slump which is understanding and expected after reading 200 books last year. Id probably be more worried if I wasn’t burnt out. I’ve been spending some time just trying to take it easy and focus on recharging. I’ve watched more TV this month then I have in a long time, despite that I’ve managed to read a handful of books this month so let’s talk about them.

WWW Wednesdays

This is has been a bit of a weird week for me, I just feel off and don’t really feel like myself. Hopefully, it passes soon but I’m in this weird limbo between tired and restless. How is it even possible to feel like this?

I’m so over winter and ready for spring to get here. I spent some time yesterday looking at flowers to plant in my yard and figuring out what kind of vegetables I would like to grow, I also just want to stop feeling cold all the time, I can’t even enjoy the idea of snuggling up in blankets to read because I’m so tired I fall asleep almost immediately.

TTT Most Recent Additions to my TBR

ttt-new

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

January 29: The Ten Most Recent Additions to My To-Read List

This is a mix of recent books I’ve bought, some new additions to my “to be read” tab on Goodreads, and twitter recommendations.

24 in 48 hr Readathon wrap up

24 in 48 (1)

I didn’t do as well as I hoped I would. I sat down to read Saturday morning after a struggle to even get out of my nice warm bed. I made coffee and breakfast (sweet potato toast with mashed avocado, 10 outta 10 and highly recommend), set up my reading area with blankets, books, I light a candle, sat down, and immediately lost all interest.

I don’t know why but I just wasn’t feeling it, which is such a disappointment because I had been looking forward to this readathon since the last round.

I cant be too mad at myself, I did read more then I would have if there wasn’t a readathon going on. I read for 4 hours, started 3 books, finished 1, and made some progress on another.

Walk the Edge

I really enjoyed the Thunder Road novels and this one was my favorite by far. Razor and Brenna broke my heart several times, I loved seeing these two grow and come into their own and learn to stick up for themselves.

Warbreaker

My first Brandon Sanderson novel and it was everything I thought it was going to be! I loved this magic system, the concepts of breath was amazing and I want more.

Warcross

I loved the virtual reality of this and Emika with her rainbow hair is one of my favorite Marie Lu characters.

My TBR For the 24 in 48 Hr Readathon

24 in 48

I participated in the 24 in 48 hr readathon last year in July and I had a great time, I read so much and enjoyed everything I read. Ever since then I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next round that is taking place from January 26th through the 27th, I’ll link the sign-up page on their website here

So the goal of the 24 in 48 hr readathon is to read for 24 hours within a 48 hour time period. Last year I think I read for 12 hours. 24 hours would be my ultimate goal of course but my realistic goal is to read for 16 or 20 hours, I feel fairly confident about that goal.

I’ve been slacking on reading for the last couple of days, I’m still not quite recovered from my reading slump, but I’m making progress. I did start watching Brooklyn 99 and have been really enjoying that, I’m about halfway through season 2 right now. Terry and Rosa are my absolute favorites, both of them make me laugh so much.

I also started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I’ve always been a huge fan of Buffy but it’s been years since I’ve watched any of it. I had forgotten how nineties the first season is with the special effects and action scenes, but I’m also really enjoying my rewatch. I had also forgotten how much I hated Xander, he is the worst!

TTT: Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

It astounds me to think that I could read 200 books and still have a pile of “I meant to get to this sooner,” But I do and that’s what today’s list is all about!

In An Absent Dream review

91lsoao515lIn An Absent Dream
by Seanan McGuire
Book 4 of the Wayward Children Series
publication date: January 8th, 2019
191 pages
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis via Goodreads
This is the story of a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she’s found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

For anyone . . .

My thoughts

I’ve really enjoyed this series, the releases have been ones that I look forward to every year and I never want them to end. I have a pure love for all the portal magic and the thought that your perfect world is out there.

Vicious
by V.E. Schwab

Not my first VE Schwab novel but one of my top faves, I loved how dark this story was and the story felt like a maze to me, there were twists and turns that left me guessing until the very end.

Voyager
by Diana Gabaldon

This one has been on my mind lately because I just finished marathoning season 3 of Outlander, and I think it’s my favorite adaptation so far, it felt true to the book. While it was more melodramatic than the first season I was 100% there for it.

Vampire Academy
by Richelle Mead

I remember feeling reluctant to start this series but I’m so glad I took a chance on it because I enjoyed it so much, I loved the boarding school setting and Rose is one of my favorite characters while Dimitri is one of my favorite book boyfriends.
