TTT: Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

It astounds me to think that I could read 200 books and still have a pile of “I meant to get to this sooner,” But I do and that’s what today’s list is all about!

TTT: Books that have been on my TBR the longest

For today’s Top Ten Tuesday I’m going to talk about some books that have been on my TBR the longest. I’m feeling pretty ashamed for just how long I’ve held onto these. The original prompt was “New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2018” I’ve already posted that and you can read that post here, you know if you want.

TTT: Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2019

January 8: Most Anticipated Releases for the First Half of 2019

There are a lot of January releases in this list. Seven out of ten. I’ve been looking forward to January for a long time now, January is also my birth month and I’m turning 27 on the 11th! It’s weird to think about, for some weird reason that I can’t explain even to myself, being 27 has some kind of odd importance to it. I really don’t know why just something in my mind has built up age 27, I don’t have any weird milestones around the age and I’ve never assigned any goals to reach by 27.

These are the books that I’m really anticipating right now, I may be picking up the January 8th books tonight after work, I’m that eager and I can just say it’s my birthday gift from me, to me…

TTT Dec 25 Books I Hope I Find Under My Christmas Tree This Morning

ttt

There’s a lot of fantasy on this list, I’ve been in a huge fantasy mood lately, not that it’s unusual. But I usually go for Young Adult fantasy but as of late, I find myself gravitating more and more towards adult fantasy.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

December 25: Books I Hope I Find Under My Christmas Tree This Morning (If you don’t celebrate Christmas, spin this to be a book wish list.)

Sailor Moon Eternal Editions
by Naoko Takeuchi

These are gorgeous and I want to collect them all!

Iron and Magic
by Ilona Andrews

I saw that this was a finalist for the Goodreads Choice Awards and it sounds like something that I would enjoy.

The Eye of the World
by Robert Jordan

I’ve heard many amazing things about this series, some of my family members have read it as well and I want to see what this series has to offer.

Middlemarch
by George Eliot

I don’t quite remember how this book came to be on my radar but it is right now and I am very curious about it.

Red Sister
by Mark Lawrence

I’ve heard a lot of great things about this and I was hesitant to start it because I thought I would have to read the two other trilogies before I could get to this but that doesn’t sound to be the case, therefore I am moving this up on my priority list.

Blades of the Old Empire
by Anna Kashina

I stumbled across this a few weeks ago while browsing through Barnes and Noble and I can’t seem to stop thinking about it.

Age of Myth
by Michael J Sullivan

One of the books in this series was also a finalist in the Goodreads Choice Awards and it sounds fantastic but its like book 5 in the series, so I gotta get my hands on this soon.

In the Shadow of the Gods
by Rachel Dunne

I have no idea how I stumbled across this book.

Kill The Queen
by Jennifer Estep

The same case as Blades of the Old Empire, I stumbled across this in Barnes and Noble and it just sounds so intriguing.

The Inheritance Trilogy
by N.K. Jemisin

I haven’t even started the Fifth Season yet but I already want this trilogy. I just have this feeling that N.K. Jemisin is going to be a favorite author of mine.

What books are you hoping to find this holiday season?

October 9: Longest Books I’ve Ever Read

While I like to say that I like big books, I don’t like being in the middle of a book for more than a couple of days. Here are some of my favorite big books.

A Dance with Dragons (1,016 pages)
Voyager (870 pages)
It (Currently reading so I’m counting it, It has 1,156 pages)

Mistborn (672 pages)
Anna Karenina (803 pages)
Lady Midnight (720 pages)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (766 pages)

The Pillars of the Earth (973 pages)

Top Ten Tuesday: Fall TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

September 18: Books On My Fall 2018 TBR

Fall is probably my favorite reading season, especially for fantasy or dark story settings. The PNW is known for raining a lot so it enhances some darker atmospheres. I love curling up in my armchair with a hot beverage, a throw blanket, with dim lighting and hearing the rain outside. It’s my ideal reading setting. The epitome of my coziness and what I strived to create in my living room. Trust me when I say I’ve been planning my fall reading list since March. I’ve had a handful of thrillers, dark fantasy, and even one horror book that I’ve been saving for fall.

Girl on the Train

Hocus Pocus: the sequel

It

Neverwhere

Dracula

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

Dark Places and Sharp Objects

Trial By Fire/Firewalker/Witches Pyre

Untitled-2

Antigoddess/Mortal Gods/Ungodly

The Archived/ The Unbound

Have you read any of these?

Top Ten Tuesday Back to School: New Non-Fiction on My TBR

TTT-Big2

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

August 28: Back to School/Learning Freebie (in honor of school starting back up soon, come up with your own topic that fits the theme of school or learning! Books that take place at school/boarding school/during study abroad, books you read in school, textbooks you liked/didn’t like, non-fiction books you loved or want to read, etc.)

I don’t read a lot of non-fiction. If you look on my Goodreads, I have 14 non-fiction books shelved as read, and all of them have come from the last two years. Non-Fiction has never been something that I reach over. Lately, I have found topics that I am very passionate about and have been trying to find books on those topics or memoirs of people that I really admire.

I’ve sorted the list into topic groups so I can talk a little bit more about each topic and I’ve given myself “homework” but since I like these topics it won’t be as bad as actual homework.

Here we go-Newest Non-Fiction on my TBR

Feminism has always been a huge passion of mine and one that has grown over the years.

my homework? Keep reading and keep learning about the amazing women before me.
1.) Feminist Fight Club by Jessica Bennett
2.) Girls to the Front: The True Story of the Riot Grrl Revolution by Sarah Marcus

I have been so interested in Zero Waste ever since I moved into my own house and I want to learn everything I can on this topic.

My homework? Start practicing what I read about to get my life more zero waste friendly.
3.) Plastic Purge by Michael SanClements
4.) Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson

Van Life is a newer interest but its also one that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. I am in love with the idea of building a camper van and road tripping the United States, it just sounds amazing.

My homework? Find out how possible this dream is.
5.) Van Life your home on the road by Foster Huntington
6.) Van Life: Exploring the Northwest by Sarah Leamy

Bohemian style (life, fashion, home, anything and everything) is always how I see my alter ego, and I’ve recently realized that it doesn’t have to be an alter ego, I can start incorporating it into my life and embrace it.

My homework? Read and see if there’s anything I can adapt, also learn all the proper ways to take care of my houseplants.
7.) The New Bohemians by Justina Blakeney
8.) Urban Jungle by Igor Josifovic

(I’m kinda coping out and lumping houseplants in with bohemian because my ideal bohemian house would have lots of houseplants.)

Sharks have always been an interest of mine, I’ve loved learning about them ever since I was very young and I saw someone reading this during the 24in48 hours readathon, I immediately added it to my TBR.

My homework? I got nothing, just read more about a fish that I like.
9.) Demon Fish by Juliet Eilperin

Holistic health has been a new interest of mine, one that I am very slowly looking into. I’ve been very fascinated by holistic beauty and skincare but for actual health? I don’t know where to start.

My homework? Start here with this book.
10.) Body Into Balance by Maria Noel Groves

Top Ten Tuesday: BEST BOOKS OF 2018 (SO FAR!)

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Its been a while since I’ve posted a Top Ten Tuesday, I didn’t have any ideas for today’s topic which is a book mash up you would like to see. Since I didn’t have any ideas for that I decided to do my favorites of 2018 so far. I’ve already added 34 books to my favorites so far this year. That’s nuts! I don’t want to list 34 books and I know you don’t want to read a list of 34 books because who does?

This list is some of the new favorites that I’ve caught myself thinking about time and time again.

Moxie
I adored this book, this was actually my first review of 2018. I loved reading about girls who found the courage to fight back against the sexism and misogyny in their high school. This book is inspiring.

Dear Martin
Sometimes I do wish I could stop thinking about this one because I still cry thinking about it. My heart just cannot let go of these characters and their story. Justyce is an amazing character and watching his struggles and the way he fights back is just everything.

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance
I love the way this book was written, if you haven’t read it yet, I would urge you to just because of the writing alone. The main character’s story was told by the people he met throughout his life. There wasn’t much from him telling his story and that really enhanced the story overall. Also, the story is really good. I honestly can’t say enough good things about it.

Sky in the Deep
This book completely lived up to the hype, in my opinion, its fast paced with a really interesting story. It was described as Wonder Woman meets Vikings and I think that’s the perfect sentence, nothing more needs to be said.

American Gods
I’ve read a fair amount of Neil Gaiman books in the last few years and I still have more to go. I’ve read 6 books out of *looks at the numerous amount he has written* …a lot. So I’m not an expert and while I liked his stuff before, this one was the book that bumped him up into a favorite author slot. If I may make a recommendation, the audiobook is a full cast narration and it’s amazing. I think it really enhanced my reading experience and is part of why this is one of my favorites.

The Bear and the Nightingale
I don’t know where to start with this one, there’s Russian folklore, amazing atmosphere, loveable main character, and a whimsical magic feeling that is spread throughout the entire story.

Obsidio
What an amazing finale, while I still want more from this world, I’m very satisfied with how it ended. Everything wrapped up so nicely.

The Name of the Wind
I have mixed feelings about origin starts, a majority of the time I would rather jump in headfirst and then circle back to the tale of origin. This one to me is an origin done right. I adored this world so much and Kvothes storytelling is what I aspire to. While this book is massive, it also reads at a fast pace there is always something going on.

Amy and Rogers Epic Detour
This story ignited a burning desire within me to travel. I just want to go everywhere and drive everywhere now.

Eliza and Her Monsters
I also don’t know what to say about this one, I went into it knowing the bare minimum of it’s about a girl who anonymously runs a popular webcomic and meets the most popular fanfic writer, and she has anxiety. That’s what I knew going into it and I kinda think this is one of those books that you don’t need to know much going into it. I loved loved loved it!

Whats your favorite book of 2018 so far?

Top Ten Tuesday: Fandom

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

April 4: Fandom Freebie — top ten fandoms I’m in, 10 reasons X fandom is the best, must have merchandise for x fandom, etc. etc.

My fandoms

Star Wars- Star Wars is probably the first fandom I ever joined, I was watching Star Wars at like age 6 or 7 so there was never really a point in my life where I didn’t know about Vader and Luke lol. Star Wars is also the fandom that I own the most merch of. I have a ton of Darth Vader stuff: shirts, a mug, funkos, little knick knacks that are given to me as gifts.

1280px-Star_Wars_Logo.svg

Harry Potter

We can’t have this list without mentioning Harry Potter, one of my friends and I are currently marathoning the series over our weekends. I don’t own much merch for this fandom tho, I have a pair of Slytherin sweats and that’s about it. But I love reading fanfic for this fandom and I could spend all day reading all of the fandom related posts on Tumblr.

Lord of the Rings

I will never say no to revisiting Middle Earth, I still haven’t read the books but one day I will.

Batman/DC

One of my absolute favorite fandoms! I love Batman, Gotham is my favorite area of the DC universe. I love how complex the villains are and how complex Batman himself can be.

Batman-1

Captain America/Marvel

Who didn’t see this coming? I love my Captain.

CACW_Steve_Textless_Poster

ACOTAR/TOG

Finally another book related fandom. Again probably saw this coming

Chekov/Star Trek movies

Lol my sole involvement in the Star Trek fandom is centered around this guy. I fell in love with him almost instantly and spend a lot of my time looking at Chekov pins on Pinterest whilst trying to perfect my Russian accent so I can mimic his lines.

P.s. I always refer to him as my precious Russian cupcake.

Deadpool

I dont think I need to say anything to explain why I love him.

Arrow and Flash

A Fandom that I am slowly backing away from, my interest in the shows have died down a little but I’m hoping once I sit down and binge, I’m sure that’ll change.

Game of Thrones

Another fandom that I am slowly losing interest in. ImI’must almost feeling like I’m over it.

Books.

For all of these books, I was hopelessly glued to these pages, just obsessed with the story and couldn’t stop reading. Good luck trying to take the book from me when I reach that point. For all of these, I started and finished them all in the same day.
