May Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Up
I am so happy that its the last day of May. This month dragged on for me. I keep reflecting back on events that took place at the beginning of the month and it baffles me that they were at the start of the month, it feels like they were two months ago at least. My reading was a little bit slow this month since I had a lot of house projects and yard work but overall it was a pretty good month so let’s get into it.

Jane Steele
by Lyndsay Faye
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed this so much, it was dark and had fun parallels to the original Jane Eyre story. I do feel like the ending kind of came out of nowhere but it was still enjoyable none the less.

Nocturnal
by Wilder Poetry
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This was a nice poetry collection, I loved the theme of the night sky. I don’t quite remember a lot more than that.

Again but Better
by Christine Riccio
my rating 3 out of 5 stars

I had mixed feelings about this, I enjoyed the first part of the book a lot more than the second part of the story, I did love how much of Christine’s personality shone through.

In The Absence of the Sun
by Emily Curtis
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I was a little bored reading this, this collection made me feel as if I wasn’t alone and things are going to be okay, but the poems were fine. Overall I didn’t love it and didn’t hate it.

Umbrella Academy Volume 1: The Apocolypse Suite
by Gerard Way
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Umbrella Academy Volume 2: Dallas
by Gerard Way
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

These comic books are so fun with a unique art style that’s very vivid and sharp. I love the actor who portrays Number 5 is perfect for that role, he did such a good job bringing this character to life.

Big Little Lies
by Liane Moriarty
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I am kicking myself for not reading this sooner, I wasn’t completely sure if I was going to like this story but knew I wanted to watch the show with Reese Witherspoon. I finally picked this up almost on a whim and I loved it. It was so good and kept me hooked to the story, I already want to reread it.

Words of Radiance
by Brandon Sanderson
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I was a little hesitant to jump back into this world and have to deal with more of Kaladin’s bullshit, but I’m so glad to have read it because it was so much better than the first book and I gave book one 5 stars despite hating Kaladin and having issues with the characters lacking complexity. This book did improve on those issues, I can’t wait to read Oathbringer after that ending.

Edgedancer
by Brandon Sanderson
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

In case you’re wondering how many times the word “awesome” was used in 272 pages, it was 62 times. It bothered me so much, I complained about it to anyone who would listen.

Favorite Book of the Month: Big Little Lies
Least Favorite Book of the Month: Edgedancer
