TTT: Things that Make Me Pick Up A Book

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

April 2: Things That Make Me Pick Up a Book

I buy into hype so easily, it really doesn’t take much to talk me into adding a book to my TBR. That said, let’s take a look at things that jump out at me and grab my interest.

  1. The author
I have a list of auto-buy authors like Victoria Schwab, Renee Ahdieh, Laini Taylor, and a few others. As soon as I see that they have a book coming out, I immediately add it to my wishlist and tbr.
  2. The description has the words “Thief” or “Assassin”
I love when stories have these types of characters, I love what they add to the story with shifting morals and twisted logic.
  3. It has an f/f relationship
This is an area in publishing that needs so much work, more LGBTQ+ books are needed.
  4. Beautiful covers
Who doesn’t love a beautiful cover?
  5. It has an interesting magic system
One thing that I love about Brandon Sanderson’s books are his magic systems, I think they’re so creative especially the system in Warbreaker which I think is my favorite one so far.
  6. I hear that the writing style is beautiful
I love beautiful writing, especially if it gets compared to Laini Taylor or Roshani Chokshi’s books then I’m sold.
  7. Recommendations/hype
It really doesn’t take much to sell me on a book, I love reading, I love diversifying my reading range.

    So that’s it for me.
What do you like seeing in a book?
