Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Its been a while since I’ve posted a Top Ten Tuesday, I didn’t have any ideas for today’s topic which is a book mash up you would like to see. Since I didn’t have any ideas for that I decided to do my favorites of 2018 so far. I’ve already added 34 books to my favorites so far this year. That’s nuts! I don’t want to list 34 books and I know you don’t want to read a list of 34 books because who does?
This list is some of the new favorites that I’ve caught myself thinking about time and time again.
Moxie
I adored this book, this was actually my first review of 2018. I loved reading about girls who found the courage to fight back against the sexism and misogyny in their high school. This book is inspiring.
Dear Martin
Sometimes I do wish I could stop thinking about this one because I still cry thinking about it. My heart just cannot let go of these characters and their story. Justyce is an amazing character and watching his struggles and the way he fights back is just everything.
Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance
I love the way this book was written, if you haven’t read it yet, I would urge you to just because of the writing alone. The main character’s story was told by the people he met throughout his life. There wasn’t much from him telling his story and that really enhanced the story overall. Also, the story is really good. I honestly can’t say enough good things about it.
Sky in the Deep
This book completely lived up to the hype, in my opinion, its fast paced with a really interesting story. It was described as Wonder Woman meets Vikings and I think that’s the perfect sentence, nothing more needs to be said.
American Gods
I’ve read a fair amount of Neil Gaiman books in the last few years and I still have more to go. I’ve read 6 books out of *looks at the numerous amount he has written* …a lot. So I’m not an expert and while I liked his stuff before, this one was the book that bumped him up into a favorite author slot. If I may make a recommendation, the audiobook is a full cast narration and it’s amazing. I think it really enhanced my reading experience and is part of why this is one of my favorites.
The Bear and the Nightingale
I don’t know where to start with this one, there’s Russian folklore, amazing atmosphere, loveable main character, and a whimsical magic feeling that is spread throughout the entire story.
Obsidio
What an amazing finale, while I still want more from this world, I’m very satisfied with how it ended. Everything wrapped up so nicely.
The Name of the Wind
I have mixed feelings about origin starts, a majority of the time I would rather jump in headfirst and then circle back to the tale of origin. This one to me is an origin done right. I adored this world so much and Kvothes storytelling is what I aspire to. While this book is massive, it also reads at a fast pace there is always something going on.
Amy and Rogers Epic Detour
This story ignited a burning desire within me to travel. I just want to go everywhere and drive everywhere now.
Eliza and Her Monsters
I also don’t know what to say about this one, I went into it knowing the bare minimum of it’s about a girl who anonymously runs a popular webcomic and meets the most popular fanfic writer, and she has anxiety. That’s what I knew going into it and I kinda think this is one of those books that you don’t need to know much going into it. I loved loved loved it!
Whats your favorite book of 2018 so far?
Great list. Dear Martin and Eliza are two books that I really need to get to soon. I think my favorite read of 2018 is Beartown by Fredrik Backman.
