March Wrap Up 2018

I had a goal this month to catch up and/or finish a couple series that I’ve been slacking on. I ended up finishing two series and caught up on three, I had hoped to finish King’s Cage and the Song Rising to bump that catch up to five but alas that just didn’t work out.

I did finish King’s Cage though but that’ll be in my April Wrap Up.

F*ck Love
by Tarryn Fisher
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I did not like this as much as I thought I would; I remember just feeling really frustrated at all of the characters and I also did not care for the ending. It didn’t have that satisfying conclusion that I was hoping for.

Ink Mage
by Victor Gischler
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

While this was a very interesting idea and there was a lot that I liked about it, it didn’t live up to what it promised. I really like the morally gray characters; there really is no good or bad traits just a lot of gray areas. I will continue with the trilogy, hopefully soon.

The Blood of Olympus
by Rick Riordan
my rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

I don’t know what to say about this, I was so disappointed about the ending, so much build up, 5 books of build up, 2,777 pages to get to this moment. And it was over in a blink. I honestly wish the book would have been a little bit bigger so more plot points could have been flushed out a bit better?

The Trails of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle
by Rick Riordan
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I love Apollo! Omg! He is so full of himself and so funny. He had loads of character development and the story moved at a good pace, all of the new characters were just great.

The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One
by Amanda Lovelace
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This book is written so beautifully and I want more now. All of these poems just spoke to my soul and my heart.

The Trails of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy
by Rick Riordan
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I can’t say much about this since it is the sequel to the Hidden Oracle but I will say I was very disappointed with Apollo, in the hidden oracle I loved how much character development he had, how much he grew in that book, then when I started this one it was like someone hit reset on him. He started off the exact same like nothing he learned from book one was important.

The Raven Boys (Reread)
by Maggie Stiefvater
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I’m so happy that I reread this, I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around. Since I was more familiar with the characters and with Henrietta I was able to just focus on the details a little bit more and I picked up on so much more this time around! There’s no way I would have been able to continue on with the series without rereading this.

The Dream Thieves
by Maggie Stiefvater
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I did not want to like Ronan, I really did not like him in The Raven Boys and I was so sure that nothing was going to change my mind. But that all changed, I don’t love Ronan but he definitely grew on me. My heart broke for him and cheered for him and wanted to smack him upside the head a couple times. He’s so complex and fleshed out.

Tower of Dawn
by Sarah J Maas
my rating: 5 out of 5

My love! Easily my favorite book of the month, I also wasn’t expecting to like this, I do like Chaol and I was still on the fence about this. But I’ve heard so many amazing things about this ever since it came out and I decided that since I was going to try to catch up on series…. its time. And I am so glad. I loved everything that happened, everything involved with it. I already want to reread it.

Glass Sword
by Victoria Aveyard
my rating: 2 out of 5

This was such a rude change to go from my love of Tower of Dawn to this. I did not like anything that happened. Mare went from being a mildly annoying character to an absolute irritating character, her hubris was painful to get through. If there was no Mare…

Blue Lily, Lily Blue
by Maggie Stiefvater
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Honestly my least favorite book of the series, but it’s my favorite color! That green and those flowers! LOVE! I was mostly bored with a lot of the plot. I didn’t care for Gwenllian and Greenmantle and just struggled to get through their scenes.

The Mime Order
by Samantha Shannon
my rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Another fave! OMG everything that happened was just amazing. Everything moved at a great pace, the characters became even more loveable. So glad I picked this up as well. That ending was everything.

A Torch Against the Night
by Sabaa Tahir
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I picked up the audiobook and I am so glad I did! I adored Helene in this one so much more. I thought all the traveling was going to bore me but I was hooked to the pages.

The Raven King
by Maggie Stiefvater
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Again I feel a little let down by this finale. I feel like there was more build up and it was a little anti-climatic to me. A little too quick and just not what I wanted.

Favorite- Tower of Dawn
Least Fave- Glass Sword
