February Wrap Up 2018

My goal for February was to try to read as much/if not more then I did in January, which was 21 books. A bit ambitious right? Well, I wanted to try and also to catch up on some more series.

But then I bought a Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and all my plans kinda went out the window. I think I could have squeezed in two or more books if I hadn’t been so enthralled with BotW. Oh well, it was worth it.

On to what I read.

Morning Star
by Pierce Brown
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Oh. My. God. That ending though! I think Morning Star was my absolute favorite of the entire trilogy. Sevro is everything!

The Book Thief
by Marcus Zusack
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Why did I wait so long to read this?? I’ve had this book for about 3 years now and I’ve been meaning to buy it since I was in high school. Yet I never did until now. Why? What is wrong with me? But I loved this of course. It was heartbreaking and the writing was gorgeous!

by Krysten Ritter
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I’m not sure what to say about this, I enjoyed this overall but it was a slow start and also had slow points throughout it. The ending was addicting though, you couldn’t have paid me to put the book down. I really hope that Krysten is planning to write more books.

by Naomi Novick
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I’m glad I finally read this, It wasn’t what I was expecting but it was an enjoyable read overall. I will say there is a bit of a slow start but about a third of the way through I was pretty hooked.

The Language of Thorns
by Leigh Bardugo
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Dark and unexpected fairy tale retellings set in the Grishaverse. Love love love. Also, there are gorgeous illustrations with the stories. If you haven’t picked this up yet, I highly recommend.

Fire Study
Maria V Snyder
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

This was a bit of a letdown for me, I loved books 1 and 2, and was so ready to continue with the series. But I was just not into this. It was slow, there was a lot of talking about what was needed to do and not enough action.

A Wrinkle in Time
Madeleine L’Engle
my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I was very surprised to discover that I didn’t like this, I thought for sure that I was going to love it but alas, no. The pacing was slow and the writing was a little dull.

Wires and Nerve Vol 2: Gone Rouge
by Marissa Meyer
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Saga Vol 8
by Brian Vaughan
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I love Saga, these are always great entertaining reads.

A Closed and Common Orbit
by Becky Chambers
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I love this trilogy so much! I never would have thought I would enjoy “space operas” I love action parts so much and thought that I would miss all the butt-kicking scenes but nope I didn’t. I love this world that was introduced and adored all the characters.

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things
By Bryn Greenwood
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

So umm yeah. This was awkward and intense, and odd and addicting. The last time I felt so torn about a book was when I read Forbidden.

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry
by Neil DeGrasse Tyson
my rating: 4 out of 4 stars

I fully recommend the audiobook for this, Neil’s voice has a very soothing tone and he makes all these great little notes. This was very enlighting and he had a great way of teaching some really heavy science topics. I felt like I was understanding what he was saying.

Little Book of Hygge
by Meik Wiking
my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I didn’t love this as much as I thought I would have. It was a little dry and kinda dull, I ended up mostly skimming through it. I do want everything in my life to be hygge though. Hygge is just the literal definition of my aesthetic though, I just want to be cozy.

Immortal Reign
by Morgan Rhodes
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I am super satisfied with this ending, I will say that I wanted more. This was one of those instances where I literally turned the page and it was over and I WASNT READY! I thought I still had 10 or so more pages to go!

by Neal Shusterman
my rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I read Sycthe last month and really enjoyed it, I was expecting more action and more fight scenes but this focused a little bit more on the politics side which was fine just not what I was expecting and/or wanting. And now I have to wait until next year for the final book. I may die from anticipation.

by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This had such a slow start but once you got used to the new world and started understanding the games, it really picked up a lot! That ending though! It was so intense and I cant wait until the next book comes out.

Ship of the Dead
by Rick Riordan
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I adore Magnus Chase. I especially loved the climax of the entire trilogy it was very well done. I loved how everything came together and it had amazing character development and diversity.

A Dance With Dragons
by George RR Martin
my rating: 4 out 5 stars

I finally finished this! I am so proud of myself! I started this back in July 2015, I would quickly lose interest in some of the chapters (Theon and Bran are literally the worst) and at other points I would just feel so discouraged by the length and never felt like I was making any progress but I decided to buy the audiobook and that really helped me make tons of progress. I didn’t deduct any stars for how long it took me to read because that’s my personal issue and not an issue with the book. Yes, while Theon and Bran were boring but I did mostly enjoy everything else.

House of Hades
by Rick Riordan
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Oh my god! I’m so glad that I’m finally reading the Heros of Olympus series. Mark of Athena has been my absolute favorite so far but this one is a close second. I loved everything that happened, well almost everything, Bob and Calypso deserve better. A lot better. Also Small Bob is the best. 🙂
