My disappointing reads of 2017

My Most Disappointing Reads of 2017

Or, all my 2 star reads for 2017. These are all books that I had been looking forward to but were a letdown for various reasons or they just didn’t deliver.

Also, I’m sorry if you loved any of these that I’m about to mention, I’m not trying to say that these are terrible books, they just didn’t do it for me.

The Hundredth Queen
Emily R King
my rating: 2 out 5 stars

I was so bored reading this story. On a positive, I LOVED the sense of friendship and sisterhood that the main character felt. On the other hand, there was SO. MUCH. PATRIARCHY. *eye roll* there were so many points where all I could do was roll my eyes. It was also predictable and awkward at points.

A Thousand Nights
E.K. Johnston
my rating: DNF

I really struggled to try to read this, I think I read to page 110, so about a third of the way through and I just couldn’t get through any further. Nothing of interest was happening and I just found the story to be very dry.

That Summer
Sarah Dessen
my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Pretty slow paced with a few spots where not much was going on.
The book had an overwhelming melancholy feel to it that anyone who’s had a difficult time accepting a divorce would be able to relate to.

Lucky in Love
Kasie West
my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I think this could have been a lot better if it was longer, I wanted more friend interactions, more love interest interaction, less moping. If more little details had been stretched out and given more significance I would have liked it a lot more.

We Are Okay
Nina LaCour
my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Not a lot happens, I gave it 2 stars because it was very beautifully written but there were a lot of unnecessary details that felt drawn out and boring.

What were you’re most disappointing reads of 2017?
