Blogmas #3: Arkham Knight, Orphan Black, and coffee fail

Blogmas Day 3

I didn’t do much yesterday, at least not much worth talking about. I read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen and I freaking loved it! One thing that I really liked about it was that that main character Remy was kind of a bitch. And she was basically alright with it! Sometimes girls are portrayed as “catty” or “petty” but Remy was pretty bitchy and owned it. Maybe not an ideal character but respectable. I really liked that.

After finishing that I just played a bit of Arkham Knight on the Xbox One and watching a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory. TBBT is a show that I put on when I don’t know what to watch or when I don’t know what to do, but I can’t wait until the next episode, I really want to see Howard and Bernadette’s baby.

I need to talk about Arkham Knight real quick. If you’ve never played it basically its the final episode in the Batman Arkham series, probably my favorite video game series ever (followed by Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed), in AK you have the main story and a handful of side missions. After completing five of the side missions you can activate something called the Knightfall protocol. I finished all but one mission (I ended up giving up on it) and decided to activate Knightfall.

And the Knightfall protocol is some bullshit!
I could not believe that ending!
I screamed and cried!

I’ve already screamed and cried because there was another part of the game that’s also total bullshit.

I don’t want to spoil anything so I guess youtube the video but if you are planning to ever play the game dont spoil yourself that way.

P.s. how gorgeous is Poison Ivy in this game? The girl is stunning!
Love her so much!

Blogmas Day 4

Again on day 4 I still don’t have much to update it on. I’m dog sitting for my grandma for a couple days.

Shes such a pretty puppy!

The Coco Puff!!

I started reading Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe and I am really liking it so far.

I also started watching Orphan Black, two episodes in, and I think I’m already hooked. Every single time I think I have a question answered two more pop up.

Holy Mother of Dragons this show is intense!

Last thing that I want to talk about for the night is this experience I had this morning at a coffee stand.

I woke up this morning craving a peppermint mocha. Pretty odd craving for me because I take my coffee straight black and usually mochas are too sweet for me. Another fun fact, when I get an espresso drink I get mine with almond milk, it adds a creamer and smoother taste to the drink and doesn’t upset my stomach.

I go to my second favorite coffee stand in town (the first one had a line and I didn’t want to wait)

I order a 16 oz blended drink for the bf and ordered my peppermint mocha with almond milk. The barista said “okay” and started preparing drinks. She turns around and says “Oh sorry, we’re out of almond milk. And soy.” bummer. “So I said, okay, dairy milk is fine.” The barista starts preparing my drink, turns around again and says “I’m sorry but we’re actually out of peppermint syrup.” All I could do at that point was laugh.

I know a handful of people that would be so mad but I thought it was hilarious.

That’s it for my last few days/weekend.
I lead an exciting life lol.

But I guess I had more to talk about then I thought I did.

Blogmas #2: First and Then mini review

I almost forgot about Blogmas today! Its 10 p.m. here in Washington and I had forgotten that I meant to post my mini review, better late then never right??

First and Then
by Emma Mills
my rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis via Goodreads

Devon Tennyson wouldn’t change a thing. She’s happy watching Friday night games from the bleachers, silently crushing on best friend Cas, and blissfully ignoring the future after high school. But the universe has other plans. It delivers Devon’s cousin Foster, an unrepentant social outlier with a surprising talent for football, and the obnoxiously superior and maddeningly attractive star running back, Ezra, right where she doesn’t want them: first into her P.E. class and then into every other aspect of her life.

Pride and Prejudice meets Friday Night Lights in this contemporary novel about falling in love with the unexpected boy, with a new brother, and with yourself.

While this took me a pretty long time to get into, for the most, it was enjoyable. That being said I did have quite a few issues with it.

-First, the pace was very slow at the start, it really took a while for the ball to get rolling.

-Second, there are so many unanswered questions at the end. I am dying to know what happens next, especially the question that was proposed at the start of the book…Did Devon get into Reeding? Nobody knows!

-Third, I wanted more backstory on one specific character, this one guy really eluded me because he had a minimal introduction, a significant impact at an event, and a confusing wrap up. Again I have more questions, where was he from? Why was he so intimidating?

I really wish there would be a follow up sequel to this because there were so many questions left unanswered. I also want there to be a companion novel for Jordan because he was so sweet and nice which is unusual for the “popular guy” character. Plus I need a follow up with Marabelle. Either I need a follow up or this needed to be 200 pages longer.

That’s my mini review, have you read this yet?

November Wrap Up

I read 12 books this month, the nine pictured above and 3 ebooks. I’m really happy with that amount and with all the books that I read. Overall November was a great reading month for me and I read a lot of good books which is always nice.

Physical Books:

The Evolution of Mara Dyer
by Michelle Hodkin
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This book was an absolute mindf*ck! I loved every single page of that book. I actually liked it more than The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.

by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

THIS WAS SO GOOD! Again I think I liked book 2 more than book 1! I fell in love with Hanna and Nik right away, Hanna is everything I want in a YA heroine, she’s tough, smart, badass and able to put her feelings aside and get shit done. Love her.

p.s. Marie Lu’s illustrations are gorgeous and I hope we see more of them in book 3

The Retribution of Mara Dyer
by Michelle Hodkin
my rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

What the hell happened? I was so disappointed when I finished this. I just can’t believe that was how the trilogy ended. I feel the urge to go sulk and pout again because this book did not do the first two justice.

More Happy Than Not
by Adam Silvera
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

My heart hurts all over again thinking about this book. I spent a good portion of the book just so confused but once I realized what was going on I was just destroyed emotionally. That last section just killed me.

A Million Worlds with you
by Claudia Gray
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Finally an amazing ending to a trilogy. I loved everything that happened, things that I didn’t know that I wanted to happen, happened and I was so happy. One day soon I am going to go through and binge read this whole series.

Beauty of Darkness
by Mary E Pearson
my rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I finally read it and it was as wonderful as I thought it would be. I highly recommend this trilogy.

This Girl
by Colleen Hoover
my rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

I don’t know why I thought I would like this because I didn’t like Slammed, Slammed is probably my least favorite CoHo book because I don’t care for Lakeyn and I don’t like the circumstances that took place. I especially hate Lakeyn’s temper tantrums and that happened in this one. I can’t roll my eyes hard enough at her. On the bright side I have now read everything Colleen Hoover has written and I just feel so accomplished.

Anyways this book is basically Will’s POV of Slammed, a little bit of Point of Retreat, and with little tidbits of their lives in the present time. If you like Will, Slammed, and Point of Retreat then you would like this one.

Just Listen
by Sarah Dessen
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This month I read my first Sarah Dessen book, I picked up Just Listen on a whim and it turned out to be just what I needed. I really liked it and I can’t wait to explore more of Sarah Dessen’s books. I have This Lullaby at home begging for my attention.

Love and Gelato
by Jenna Evans Welch

I have been wanting to read this for a couple months now, I have always wanted to travel to Italy especially to Florence where this book takes place. Also, the main character was originally from Seattle so bonus points for mentioning my home state.

This book was straight up wonderful, I loved all the tidbits and art history facts spread throughout this book. It was cute, slightly awkward, and heart warming.

A Love Letter to Whiskey
by Kandi Steiner
my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

If you saw my WWW post then you saw that I compared this book to watching 9 months of a soap opera within 300 pages. By the end of this, I was so emotionally drained and just frustrated at the main character. No joke I was about to throw my kindle at the wall reading the last few pages. It was so frustrating.

The writing for this is spectacular, though, beautifully written with all these great whiskey facts.

by Sarina Bowen
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I highly recommend this True North series, Griff is great, Jude is endearing, and Zach will destroy all your emotions but you will love it! Jude did break my heart, he made me cry a couple times and the rest of the story was top notch.

by Sarina Bowen
my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

If Jude broke my heart over and over then Zach straight up obliterated it. I was sobbing at points reading this but I loved him and Lark so much!
