The enchantment continues….

The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories—and secrets—that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?

With nine stories—five of which have never before been published—and an exclusive never-before-seen excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s upcoming novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles.

The Little Android: A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles.
Glitches: In this prequel to Cinder, we see the results of the plague play out, and the emotional toll it takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch….
The Queen’s Army: In this prequel to Scarlet, we’re introduced to the army Queen Levana is building, and one soldier in particular who will do anything to keep from becoming the monster they want him to be.
Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky: Thirteen-year-old Carswell Thorne has big plans involving a Rampion spaceship and a no-return trip out of Los Angeles.
The Keeper: A prequel to the Lunar Chronicles, showing a young Scarlet and how Princess Selene came into the care of Michelle Benoit.
After Sunshine Passes By: In this prequel to Cress, we see how a nine-year-old Cress ended up alone on a satellite, spying on Earth for Luna.
The Princess and the Guard: In this prequel to Winter, we see a game called The Princess
The Mechanic: In this prequel to Cinder, we see Kai and Cinder’s first meeting from Kai’s perspective.
Something Old, Something New: In this epilogue to Winter, friends gather for the wedding of the century…

My Thoughts

I love when novellas fill the blanks left behind in the novels, they give us those answers to questions we still had. This novella collection did a great job doing that. The only other novella collection that I liked as much as this was the Assassins Blade and I think that says a lot since I loved the Assassins Blade and the entire Throne of Glass series.

The Keeper
4 out of 5 stars

I loved Scarlet’s backstory it was heartbreaking but it really showed how Scarlet had developed her tough skin and attitude. it was also really nice to get this brief intro of Michelle Benoit and learn about this strong and amazing woman who influenced Scarlet so deeply.

5 out of 5 stars

I didn’t know my heart could break anymore for Cinder, throughout the Lunar Chronicles my heart broke for Cinder so many times and while I had known that Adri resented Cinder and never wanted her around, it was heart-wrenching to read about a 12-year-old girl feeling lost, unloved, and unwanted.

The Queens Army
4 out of 5 stars

What is Marissa doing to my heart?! The feels! The love and protection Z wanted to give his brother only to have thrown back in his face just made my heart ache for him.

Carswell’s Guide to being Lucky
3 out of 5 stars

This novella didn’t really do anything for me. I love this title, though, I feel like it’s what Carswell would choose to title his autobiography. For me, this story just showed that he was a charming con artist and we already knew that about him. But I think it did show the progress of his personal growth that he went through with Cress.

After Sunshines Passes Through
4 out of 5 stars

OMG Poor Cress, that’s all I can think to say is poor Cress, this was so sad, it shows Cress’s desire to be a citizen of Luna and to serve the crown that despises her. I still want to know how she learned her computer programming and hacking skills. I was also really impressed by how smart she was at 9 years old.

The Princess and the Guard
5 out of 5 stars

This novella started out so nicely, it was a warming and endearing opening of Winter and Jacin playing pretend, and then it went dark as it walked through Winters decision to stop using her gift, Levana’s cruel mutilation to Winter, and the start of Winter’s hallucinations. My heart broke to see how quickly and easily Jacin gave up his dream to become a physician.

The Little Andriod
5 out of 5 stars

What is Marissa doing to my heart!? That story hurt me right in the emotions, it made me feel all of the feels! It was so good. Quite possibly my favorite so far. I actually wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, I thought meh it’ll be okay. No! That was not the case at all! I grew to love Mech.06/Star so quickly and loved the whole story. It was great!

The Mechanic
3 out of 5 stars

That was a nice little glimpse into Kai’s head, I really enjoyed reading how he and Cinder met through his persepective. However it didnt really add anything to the story, We already knew about the importance of what Nainsi held. So yes it was alright but it didnt add to anything.

Something Old, Something New
5 out of 5 stars

I love seeing everyone interact with each other, seeing how Cress and Thorne tease each other, the wedding was amazing and that ending was so satisfying.

This left me feeling so satisfied, Winter didn’t quite leave off with an ending that I loved but these novellas filled in the blanks with the series, and the ending to this left me feeling so happy! Honestly, it was everything I wanted and more.
