Waiting on Wednesday 1/13/16

It has been a long time since I have posted one of these, I remember I didn’t want to post about a 2016 release while it was still 2015 and I just forgot about doing these posts.

Until now!

New WoW

Welcome back to Waiting on Wednesday, Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and you talk about books coming out soon that you’re excited about

Right now I am pretty excited for The Siren by Keira Cass.

From Kiera Cass, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series comes a captivating stand-alone fantasy romance.

Kahlen is a Siren, bound to serve the Ocean by luring humans to watery graves with her voice, which is deadly to any human who hears it. Akinli is human—a kind, handsome boy who’s everything Kahlen ever dreamed of. Falling in love puts them both in danger . . . but Kahlen can’t bear to stay away. Will she risk everything to follow her heart?

The Siren was previously self-published; this brand-new edition has been completely rewritten and redesigned.

I’m getting a massive feel of the Little Mermaid here and I don’t really mind that. I liked the Little Mermaid, I love fairy tale retellings so I’m kind of thinking of this as a Little Mermaid retelling. But I also like sirens and especially the greek mythology where they are mentioned.

I liked Kiera Cass selection series and I liked her writing. I’m curious to see where her writing career goes after the Selection is over.

Also, it’s a stand-alone fantasy romance novel, I don’t know about you but I’m sold.

WWW Wednesday 1/13/16

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

So it is day 3 of my college courses, day 3 of my first college experience, and I already feel like I’m behind. I’m really not (I think) I just feel lost. Much like I would if I were to attend a physical campus only then I would have an audience to see how like a fish out of the water that I really am. Yay college.

What have you recently finished reading?

The Golden Lily and The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead

I hate these covers but I am loving this series!

What are you currently reading?

I am currently trying to read my assigned college reading. Trying to balance my required reading and my pleasure reading is going to be a struggle.

But once my required reading and homework are out of the way I am going to pick up the Firey Heart by Richelle Mead, book 4 of Bloodlines.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m still trying to make my way through the Bloodlines series after I am done with that I plan on DEVOURING Truthwitch, I read the first 50 pages on Monday and I am in love already!

So thats it this week, what are you reading this week? Did you finish anything super exciting?

My birthday photos and reading.

So yesterday was my birthday, I turned 24 and had a pretty great day.

I took the day off of work and the bf and I started off the day with a coffee date at one of my favorite places. 🙂

Coffee dates are my absolute favorite dates. I had a berry crisp with a caramel latte and it was heavenly!

I started reading Truthwitch and it is awesome! I am loving it so far!

After that, we went to the comic book store and shopped around for a while. I’ll do a separate comic haul later on.

Lunch at Italia! This is a yummy pear and gorgonzola salad, it is my favorite!

We did a little bit more shopping then went home and I read more of The Indigo Spell, book 3 in the Bloodlines series.

So good!

I also bought my birthday gift to myself (kinda tacky I know, but I have wanted this for so long now and I had saved for it and what better time to splurge than on a birthday?)

I am so in love with it! I have been taking pictures nonstop, and even practiced filming a few videos. Once I’m done moving I really want to film a bookshelf tour, I think that would be so much fun!

Finally, we went out to dinner with my family and went to this awesome BBQ place and then I went home and read more of Indigo Spell. I’m hoping to finish that and Truthwitch today.

All in all, it was a great day, I loved every second of it.

So that’s it for my journalish entry. I’ve got a Top 10 Tuesday that I need to go draft so look for that coming up.

Bloodlines review

by Richelle Mead
421 pages

Synopsis via Goodreads:

The first book in Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlinesexplores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive–this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.

Why did I wait so long to read this?

I loved the Vampire Academy, I read the first book on a recommendation from a friend and after that first book I was hooked! I had book 2 overnighted to me and then had the rest of the books shipped to me. This friend also recommended me to read Bloodlines but for some reason, I didn’t get to it straight away. At first, it’s because I was a bit irritated with her, so I was being bratty and not listening to anything she said. Next my reason for not starting this series was because I didn’t have the rest of the books in the series, I had bought the first two and picked up the third at a used bookstore. So I didn’t want to start reading it because I didn’t have the rest of the books and I didn’t want to buy the rest of the books until I started reading the series. It just goes around in a circle huh?

I finally broke that chain.

I received a gift card to Amazon for Christmas so I used that to order the rest of the books in the Bloodlines series. Yay!

So yes I started Bloodlines and I read it within a day! My concern when I was thinking about reading it was that as soon as I finished book 1, I was going to need book 2 and so on with the rest. I was right.

I love this little secret world that Richelle Mead built and hid within our own, I love the characters and I didn’t realize how much I had missed them until I saw Rose’s and Dimitri’s names pop up.

So let’s talk characters, one thing that really annoyed me was a lot of the hypocrisy that the Alchemists have, towards vamps and dhampirs, but also the humans who volunteer as feeders. The revulsion Sydney felt when seeing vamps feeding processes was a little understanding, but the comments about vamps just taking blood when the Alchemists take vamp blood really stood out in my mind.

Also, the blatant sexism really frustrated me, I was expecting it though and what I really enjoyed was the small steps Sydney took to fight that sexism forced on her from the other Alchemists and her own father. Keith pissed me off to no end and it satisfied me to see Sydney get to a point where she wasn’t going to tolerate it anymore. I kept feeling really bad for her whenever Keith would throw her under the bus and her father would call and berate her.

Even though I had issues with two events they didn’t lower the book for me at all, if anything they really emphasized the character growth that Sydney experienced.

So Rose, Lissa, Jill, and Dimitri weren’t the only previous character name to pop up, We get to see Adrian! I adored him in the Vampire Academy and was so happy to see him as a primary character in this story.

The last thing that frustrated me with the story were the issues that Sydney and the Alchemists encountered that had very obvious answers and solutions, seriously if they just followed their train of thought for more than two seconds they would see the answer is sitting right in front of them. But whatever.

I could not put this story down for the life of me, it was just fantastic, even with those issues I had, they did not damper this reading experience for me. I cannot wait to continue on with the series and it has been the only thing I can think about right now. Actually has soon as I finish this up I am going to start the Golden Lily.

Bout of Books Day 3

All I can think about is continuing on with the Bloodline series.

I’m about 75 pages into Red Rising by Pierce Brown and even though I’m liking what I’m reading so far, all I want to do is pick up Golden Lily and continue on with Bloodlines. I actually think that’s what I am going to do so that I can finish up with Bloodlines and give Red Rising the 100% focus and attention that it deserves.  I ended up not getting much reading done on Day 3, I had a bit of a headache so I just laid in bed and watched a bit of Netflix and gave my mind a chance to relax.

So not much of an update besides the fact that I am going to abandon my entire Bout of Books tbr and just devour the Bloodlines series.

so exciting update huh.
